DIY: tiny boxes

I get so frustrated with all those little paper clips and clamps that don’t really have a designated place, yet somehow end up everywhere (and still can’t be found when you need them). So I decided to make some small boxes in the hope of bringing a little more order to the chaos. If you’d like to make your own, here’s a tutorial.

You’ll need:

carton

glue

ruler

pencil

a pair of scissors

eraser (If you are using a carton with light color)

Draw these figures on your carton (in centimeters).

Then you measure a bit more (see image)

Cut like the images shows.

Time to fold. Fold along all lines, and fold them towards you. Except the line where the white dots are, that line you fold backwards/away from you.

Your box should look like something like this. You can also erase all the pencil lines.

Glue the box together by folding the small tabs inward at the bottom..

…then tuck the side flap into the inside of the box…

…and finally, the big flap at the bottom.

Like this!

Before gluing the top part of the box together, trim a couple of millimeters off the top tabs.

Then you fold these flaps (the top ones) inwards and glue them onto the sides

After that you fold the lower flaps inwards and glue those too. Now you are finished with this part of the box.

Now for the smaller piece, which will serve as the sleeve. Fold along all the lines, erase any pencil marks if necessary, and finally glue the short sides together. Slide the box into the sleeve, and you’re done!
