Emma Noréhn (b. 1981) is a artist and painter based in Umeå/Bureå, Västerbotten, Sweden.
From a young age, I’ve been passionate about drawing and painting, creating something new every day. Through my drawings I always want to try to capture those moments that pass by so quickly—moments you later wish you could remember, wishing you had been more present.
I am fascinated by the things that often go unnoticed: the light in a gaze, the texture of fur, the small details that bring life and character to a person or an object. Through graphite pencils, and sometimes colored pencils, I try to capture that sense of stillness and invite the viewer to pause for a moment.
But my work is not only about why the drawings are made. It is also about how.
In a world where more and more things are mass-produced, copied and consumed at a high speed, I want to work with what cannot be rushed. Using pencil and paper, I create each drawing by hand, detail by detail. Every line carries traces of time, concentration and a human presence behind the work. It is my way of preserving craftsmanship in an age when authenticity and slowness are becoming increasingly rare.
